Brett Young was born in Brett Charles Young in Anaheim, Orange County, California, USA on March 23, 1981. He attended Calvary Chapel High School in Costa Mesa, California. In high school, Young played as a pitcher on his high school baseball team and led the roster to a CIF championship. He later attended the University of Mississippi on a baseball scholarship in 1999; Reject preliminary draft selections of Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Minnesota Twins.
After graduating from high school, Young attended the University of Mississippi, Oxford, Mississipi; Irvine Valley College, Irvine, California and California State University, Fresno. During the one season he spent on the Rebel baseball team in 2000, Young earned a varsity letter and recorded two wins and two saves. He then wrote for a season in the Irvine Valley before moving to Fresno. According to sources, Young was classified as a professional baseball player, but life had other plans. During the 2003 season, Young’s chances of a successful professional baseball career were thwarted by an elbow injury while playing at California State University at Fresno.
What followed was a fallback to music. Brett Young already had a foundation; sing in the Christian community back in high school. It began in the late ’90s when he was asked to fill in for an absent bandleader during a Christian worship meeting. Young had been inspired by Gavin DeGraw since he first heard his album. He also drew inspiration from the prolific singer and songwriter Jeffrey Steele. His determination saw the independent release of a self-titled four-song EP in 2007; and then another in 2011, Pretense ; then came other albums like Brett Young , On Fire , and Broken Downbetween 2012 and 2013. During this time, Young relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, the home state of country singer Brandon Heath. There he was signed by Big Machine Label Group in August 2015.
In February of the following year, Young released a self-titled six-song EP. ‘ Sleeping Without You ‘ was released as the first single from the EP in April 2016. He released another single ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’ in January 2017 ; which reached number one on the Country Airplay chart and was certified triple platinum by the RIAA. He released the third single How I Loved You in July 2017.
