From then on, he considered pursuing a career as an actor and multiplied the castings.
Gabriel LaBelle found his first role in 2013 in an episode of the Canadian detective series Motive . Two years later, he appeared furtively in the series iZombie . He then starred in the family comedy Max 2: White House Hero (2017), the horror comedy Dead Shack (id.), the reboot of Predator (2018) and the mini-series Brand New Cherry Flavor (2021).
In 2022, the Vancouver native finds a more substantial character in the eight episodes of American Gigolo , where Jon Bernthal plays the title role. But above all, Gabriel plays the hero of The Fabelmans , a semi-autobiographical film directed by Steven Spielberg . More specifically, he plays Sam Fabelman, a fictional version of the famous director of Jaws .
“The hardest part was finding an actor who looked like me, and I think I scored a great goal by finding Gabriel and then it was he who scored goal after goal. I chose a boy of an insatiable curiosity because it is a quality that has always characterized me. And as a person, Gabriel is extremely curious ,” says Steven Spielberg.
To better prepare himself, Gabriel trained himself in the handling of the Super 8 cameras that Spielberg used when he was a teenager, in the operation of an editing table and in the use of a Super 8 film projector. been trying, the pride of having overcome these difficulties was fundamental to slipping into the skin of the character.
