Todd Gerome Gurley II was born on the 3rd of August 1994 in Maryland, Baltimore. However, he was raised in Tarboro, Edgecombe County, North Carolina after his family moved to that area. Gurley received his high school education from Tarboro High School, where he excelled not only in football but also in basketball and track and field. He led his school to the 2A North Carolina State Championship title for three consecutive years. In his senior year alone, he rushed for 2,600 yards and 38 touchdowns and was named AP’s North Carolina Player of the Year. Aside from football, he was also phenomenal on the track, representing his country at the 2011 World Athletics Championships in France.
Despite all these exploits, Todd Gurley wasn’t explored by top colleges, a reason that can be attributed to the fact that he hails from a small, mostly unknown town. Todd attended the University of Georgia (UGA) for his college education, where he spent three years from 2012-2014. In his rookie season, he started 12 (of 14 games) and rushed 222 times for 1,385 yards while recording 17 touchdowns. He became the second player in school history to reach 1,000 yards as a freshman and was named an All-SEC first-team by the AP. Gurley continued his impressive form over the next two seasons, despite injuries and a four-season suspension from the NCAA. In 30 games for UGA, he totaled 3,285 rushing yards and 44 career touchdowns (36 rushing, six receiving, 2 kickoffs) to 510 carry. Todd Gurley named the time of his college career after his junior season and was declared for the 2015 NFL draft. He was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the first round and was the 10th overall pick of the year. He was also the first to be selected that year. Gurley took the NFL by storm in his debut season.
